• How do I sign up?

  Complete the Alertable sign-up form on this webpage. Choose your preferred notification method (text message, email, phone, or app), enter your contact information, and follow the prompts to complete your registration.   

• What notification method should I use?

  Choose whichever method fits your personal preferences. We recommend signing up for multiple notification methods, such as text messages or email, in addition to downloading the mobile app. Using two methods ensures that you receive alerts even if one channel experiences a delay or technical issue.

• What locations should I follow?

  We recommend adding Delta, as well as your Delta community (Ladner, North Delta, or Tsawwassen), to receive alerts relevant to where you live. In addition, you can add any other location where you work or spend time regularly. You can also turn on the “Follow Me” setting in the app to receive alerts for your current location automatically. 

• How do I change my notification preferences?

  You can change your notification settings in the Alertable app under the Settings menu, or by logging back in through the sign up portal to adjust your preferences for text, email, or phone. 

• What is the difference between Critical, Advisory, and Information alerts?

  Critical alerts are issued for active events that may require immediate attention or action. Advisory alerts are designed to notify you of disruptions and events that may escalate, giving you the opportunity to get ready in advance. Information alerts keep you informed about news and events in your chosen locations. At present, the City of Delta intends to use Alertable primarily for alerting in emergencies and critical incidents, rather than for general information purposes. 

• How often will I receive alerts?

  The City of Delta will only issue alerts in the event of an emergency or when there is important public safety information to share. The number of alerts you receive will depend on events in your area. That said, you have some control over how many alerts you receive. By selecting fewer locations, you'll only receive alerts relevant to those areas. You can also choose to receive only critical alerts and turn off advisory alerts if you'd prefer fewer, higher-priority notifications. However, critical alerts cannot be disabled. 

• Why didn’t I receive an alert when an event occurred?

  There are a few common reasons you may not have received an alert. First, check that you have added the relevant location in the app's Settings. If your phone was on silent or Do Not Disturb, you may not have heard the notification. Turn on "Override Silent Mode" in the app to ensure critical alerts are audible. A weak cellular or wifi connection can also delay or prevent delivery. If you're unsure whether an alert was issued, you can check the archive of alerts at alertable.ca. 

• Will the Alertable app drain my battery?

  The app does use some battery power, primarily to track your location if you have the "Follow Me" feature enabled. If battery usage is a concern, you can turn off "Follow Me" in the app settings. You will still receive alerts for any locations you've manually added. 

• What happens if I am travelling outside of Delta?

  You'll still receive alerts for any locations you've manually added in the app, no matter where you are. If you want to receive alerts for wherever you currently are while travelling, turn on the "Follow Me" setting in the app. You can also add the locations to which you are travelling, as long as they are in Canada.
