This Family Day, the City of Delta will become the first municipality in BC to offer free access to recreation facilities and programing for all local children and youth.
Adopted by Delta Council at the January 20 Regular Meeting, the City is excited to launch the brand-new Youth and Kids (YAK) Pass starting February 17, 2025, providing free drop-in access to Delta Parks, Recreation & Culture facilities and activities for all Delta residents 18 years of age and under. While the YAK Pass was originally slated for implementation alongside the other updated admission rates on April 1, staff have worked to have the new initiative ready for Family Day.
The YAK Pass, branded by an energetic and playful new yak mascot, signals an ambitious initiative to inspire local youth to pursue active, healthy, and social lifestyles in a safe and inclusive environment. Expanding upon Delta’s Youth Admission Pass launched in the summer of 2019 for youth ages 10-18, the YAK Pass aims to provide a comprehensive slate of recreation opportunities for all young residents throughout the community.
"We are extremely proud to bring the YAK Pass to Delta youth in time for Family Day, giving local families a fantastic way to celebrate and spend quality time together,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “Our city is home to exceptional recreation facilities and programming, and Delta Council is excited to provide kids with the opportunity to explore the incredible amenities our community has to offer, while removing potential financial hurdles.”
The City’s new YAK Pass mascot will be used to promote the pass in Delta facilities, highlighting the expansion of the free access program.
Eligible residents who are not already enrolled in the current Youth Admission Pass programs can verify their residency at any of the customer service offices at Delta’s recreation facilities.
