Weather Advisory: Snow and Ice Events

Update: February 2, 2025

With cold temperatures and snow in the forecast, we will keep this page regularly updated as information changes regarding curbside collections, facility closures, and Extreme Weather Shelters.

Delta's Snow and Ice Response

Staff monitor the weather forecast and Delta's roads for hazardous conditions around the clock. Clearing significant roadways of snow and ice is a top priority, with trucks operating on these roads 24/7 when necessary. This season, we have implemented a new enhanced priority response system for snow events, adding 3 new priority routes for a total of 6.

What You Can Do

We caution all residents to prepare for winter conditions and to do their part to stay safe. During snow and ice conditions, travel delays are likely. If driving is necessary, always check the latest weather conditions, use snow tires, and allow extra time for your commute.

The following precautions can help keep you, your loved ones, and your property safe:

  • Stay informed by keeping an eye on weather conditions.
  • Keep walkways, driveways, and sidewalks around your property clear of snow and ice to prevent slips and falls.
  • Use salt, sand, or gravel to improve traction on icy surfaces around your property.
  • Assemble an emergency kit with food, water, and medical supplies. Learn more about creating an emergency kit at delta.ca/GetPrepared.
  • Check on vulnerable neighbours, family members, and friends to ensure they are safe.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel.

Visit the BC Government's Get Prepared website for more tips.
