Mayor for a Day Contest Winners


Mayor Harvie presented commemorative photo books to two of Delta’s young citizens and Mayor for a Day contest winners, Gabe and Olivia. The aspiring Mayors spent a day handing out achievement awards, attending grand opening celebrations, and touring Delta facilities, including City Hall.

Ride-Hailing in Delta


Council defeated a motion that the City deny support for ride-hailing services in Delta. Council is supportive of bringing ride-hailing to Delta and resolved that letters be sent to the Premier, the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, and the Passenger Transportation Board to seek fairness in regulations for the taxi industry and ride-hailing companies. City Releases Delview Park Concept Plan


Council approved the proposed conceptual plan for Delview Park. The plan was created based on community input and includes improvements to the existing washroom facilities and off-leash dog area. The washroom facilities will be updated to meet accessibility standards and relocated to a more central location. The off-leash dog area will significantly increase in size and feature an interior fence to provide separate areas for small and large dogs. View the staff report.

Cannabis Regulations and Operations Update


The City has been proactive in introducing bylaw amendments and other measures to address the legalization of non-medical cannabis and staff are exploring additional opportunities for regulatory controls. Council resolved that a collaborative, multi-jurisdictional approach is necessary when enforcing compliance with odour regulations and that staff should take action to work with the various authorities to manage cannabis odour issues that impact local residents. Green for Life Environmental Composting Facility Update


Council received an update regarding the Green for Life Environmental Composting Facility. Construction for a fully enclosed facility to replace the existing exposed composting operation is underway and expected to be completed by spring 2020. At this time, Metro Vancouver is actively monitoring the facility for compliance with its Air Quality Permit and the Environmental Appeal Board Hearing is scheduled to continue in October 2019. Funding for New Electric Vehicle Charging Stations


Council endorsed funding for 20 electric vehicle charging stations located at six public facilities throughout Delta. The City will submit an application to Natural Resources Canada to share the cost of purchasing and installing the new stations. View the staff report.
