New Off-Leash Dog Area Opens at Delta Community Animal Shelter
May 30, 2019
Mayor George V. Harvie celebrated the opening of a new dog agility yard and fenced-off leash area located at the Delta Community Animal Shelter today. These new, dedicated off-leash dog amenity areas are also open to the public.
Fortis BC, a key financial supporter of this project also participated in today’s opening celebration. Mayor Harvie was also joined by two Delta students, Olivia and Gabriel, who were selected to spend the day with the Mayor as part of his first ever Mayor for a Day Contest.
During his remarks, Mayor Harvie recognized Fortis BC for their generous support, and the Shelter’s Tollie Fund, which also provided funding for this project. In addition to the new off-leash area, Fortis BC is also the title sponsor for the Shelter’s annual Delta Community Animal Expo, a free-family event scheduled for August 18, 2019 at Ladner Memorial Park.
“This investment offers a new area to provide additional training to shelter dogs, enhancing their well-being and helping get them ready for adoption. Supporting our shelter animals and improving Delta’s outdoor public infrastructure are both important goals supported by Delta Council.”
– Mayor George V. Harvie
The off-leash area is approximately 1,110 square metres in size and features agility equipment for dogs of all skill levels.
“The Shelter’s new outdoor dog yard and agility area will help improve the lives of shelter dogs, while also providing the public with a new off-leash fenced area for their dogs to enjoy.”
– Ryan Voutilainen, Manager, Delta Community Animal Shelter
