River Road Lane Closure
May 02, 2019
Update: April 18, 2019
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure completed temporary repairs to the failed retaining wall in early April 2019. The Ministry is in the process of developing a design for the permanent wall repair and construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of summer 2019. The northbound lane on River Road will remain closed with single lane alternating traffic in effect until the permanent repair is complete.
Update: February 25, 2019 Update
The eastbound lane on River Road between 92A Avenue and Knudson Road is closed due to a wash out that was caused by a flash flood on June 13, 2018. As a result, the south retaining wall requires mandatory repairs before traffic can safely use the lane.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has provided an update on the steps being taken to stabilize the road and proceed with design and repair:
- The Ministry is currently implementing interim repair and is working with Mainroad, their maintenance contractor, to complete this work based on weather condition. Construction will soon commence on the interim repair. Over the coming weeks, motorists can expect to see construction crews, mobilization of equipment and materials, and construction activities.
- The complete repair works is ongoing concurrently with interim repair; the Ministry is working with Associated Engineering to design this work. Complete repair for the wall is planned to be completed before the end of summer 2019.
- Single lane alternating traffic still applies 24 hours a day and 7 days a week for safety until the work is completed by the end of summer 2019. Please use road with caution.
Questions regarding the closure and repair should be directed to Knudson.WallRepair@gov.bc.ca.
Please observe the temporary traffic signal at all times, even in the presence of no oncoming traffic.Thank you for your ongoing patience.
