Mayor Awards $10,000 in Scholarships at Delta Career Fair
Apr 26, 2019
Mayor George V. Harvie awarded $10,000 in scholarships to the following Delta students at the City’s seventh annual Delta Trades and Technical Career Fair: Kyle Ainge, Dominic Dawydiuk-Clozza, Daryl Dias, Jordan Hawksworth, and Ethan Hrabovski. Each of these students received a $2,000 scholarship to go towards post-secondary studies in a trade or technical program.
“I am pleased to present these students with a scholarship to support their future. I applaud their hard work and dedication to their studies and hope to see them back at this event in the future encouraging more of Delta’s youth to explore careers in trades and technical areas.” - Mayor George V. Harvie
The Delta Trades and Technical Career Fair began in 2013 with the goal of inspiring students to pursue career options in trades and technical areas. Each year, the Career Fair hosts dozens of exhibits that provide a hands-on, interactive experience in a variety of career opportunities, including welding, culinary arts, emergency services, and many more. This is the first year the City has offered scholarships to further support the pursuit by Delta youth of trades and technical careers.
Thousands of students from local schools attended yesterday’s free main event, along with their parents and the general public. The evening post-secondary recruitment session was also successful, providing an opportunity for students to meet with local employers and post-secondary education institutions on course offerings and jobs available in the trades.
The City of Delta thanks all organizations who participated in this year’s Career Fair, including the Delta School District, British Columbia Institute of Technology, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Vancouver Community College and other local employers and industry organizations. Together these exhibitors provided Delta students and families with expert advice, demonstrations, and the opportunity for people to try their hand at a variety of trades and technical careers.
