Fire Danger Rating: HIGH

Mayor Lois E. Jackson reminded the public of the current High Fire Danger Rating and asked for cooperation and compliance with the fire safety guidelines, which includes a ban on campfires and briquette BBQs and cooking stoves, as well as a ban on smoking in all of Delta’s parks and trails. Fraser Health Reports on Health Concerns from Green for Life Composting Facility

Council received a delegation from Fraser Health Medical Health Officer, Dr. Michael Schwandt, and Human Health Risk Assessment Specialist, Dr. Goran Krstic, regarding the Health Authority’s investigation into the potential for adverse human health effects from odours at the Green for Life Enviro-Smart composting facility. Public Health Bylaw Approved re: Updated Smoking Regulations

Council gave final consideration and adoption to a new Delta Smoking Regulation Bylaw and associated amendments to the Bylaw Notice Enforcement Bylaw and the Municipal Ticketing Information Bylaw. The new bylaw brings Delta more in line with other municipalities in terms of smoking regulations and also addresses the smoking of cannabis in light of the impending legalization. Update on Green for Life Enviro-Smart Composting Facility

Council endorsed recommendations in response to the recently issued Metro Vancouver Air Quality Permit to Green For Life Environmental (GFL) Enviro-Smart composting facility in Ladner. As part of the issuance of a Metro Vancouver Air Quality Permit, GFL must fully enclose their composting facility and treat air through a bio-filter by March 1, 2020.

Delta Seeking Grant to Undertake Drainage Improvements

A grant application to the Federal/Provincial Green Infrastructure – Environmental Quality Program was approved by Council for the design and construction of a new drainage pump station near Centre Ditch and 84 Street. An application for these improvements is being sought to address this low-lying area, which is often susceptible to flooding and runoff during winter months. View the staff report.


Summary of the Delegation to the World Conferences on Cities & Ports in Quebec City

A summary was received by Council on the recent Delta delegation to the 16th World Conference on Cities and Ports in Quebec City, from June 11-14, 2018. Delta’s delegation engaged in discussions with policy makers, academics and business professionals, about best practices for managing port growth in a sustainable way, including in the key area of emergency services. Council Approves New Delta Trades & Technical Career Scholarships

As an incentive to encourage participation in the field of trades and technology by Delta students, Council approved five $2,000 Scholarships (for a total of $10,000 in scholarships). These scholarships will be made available to graduating students or residents who have graduated from a Delta secondary school within the past five years, interested in pursuing a career in the field of trades and technology. Delta & Tsawwassen Boundary Bay Lions Club Partner for New Natural Playground at Grauer Park

Council approved the installation of a new natural playground at Grauer Park as part of a Community Initiated Cost Sharing Project in partnership with the Tsawwassen Boundary Bay Lions Club. The City and the Lions Club will each contribute $50,000 towards this new community amenity. View the staff report.
