2018 Earth Day Photo Contest Winners

Mayor Lois E. Jackson recognized the winners of the 2018 Earth Day Photo Contest. This year, the contest’s theme was “Birds and their Environment” to promote Delta’s Birds and Biodiversity Conservation Strategy and the 2018 International Ornithological Congress. 

The winners of this year’s contest were:

Day of Mourning

Council received a presentation from the New Westminster & District Labour Council regarding the National Day of Mourning for Workers Killed and Injured on the Job, which takes place on Saturday, April 28. Council also observed one minute of silence in remembrance of workers killed or injured on the job.

BCIT Air Quality & Emissions

Council received a presentation from the Associate Dean of the British Columbia Institute of Technology regarding new equipment and training offered by BCIT for Air Quality and Emissions. 


Proposed Cannabis Regulations

Council received an update on Health Canada’s proposed regulatory regime for non-medical cannabis. The update included a differentiation between ‘micro’ and ‘standard’ licences for cannabis cultivation and processing, as well as details regarding cannabis packaging and labeling. Health Canada specifically addressed Delta’s concerns and proposed to implement a comprehensive regime of packaging and labeling requirements. View the staff report
