NAIOP Awards for Municipal Excellence

The City of Delta was recognized by NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association Vancouver Chapter and Business in Vancouver, as the Most Fiscally Responsible Municipality. This is the third time Delta has received the award. 

2017 Hats Off to Excellence Award Winners

On Friday, November 24, the Delta Chamber of Commerce hosted the 66th Annual Hats Off to Excellence Awards Gala. This awards ceremony celebrated business and community leaders from a wide range of backgrounds, who have contributed significantly to Delta. The recipients of this year’s awards are:

  • Volunteer of the Year – Elaine Canning
  • Employee Extraordinaire of the Year – Jordan Wolff of Neutron Factory works
  • Special Events and Tourism – Ladner Village Market
  • Rising Star of the Year – The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy #367 Tsawwassen
  • Green Business of the Year – Global Container Terminals (for GCT Deltaport)
  • Micro Business of the Year – Dave’s Pop Culture
  • Small Business of the Year – The Run Inn
  • Large Business of the Year – Unitech Construction Management Ltd.
  • Citizen of the Year – Irene Forcier.

Canada 150 Free Skate & City of Delta Celebrations

On Sunday, December 10, Delta residents are invited to the Canada 150 Free Skate & City of Delta Celebrations at the Ladner Leisure Centre and Sungod Recreation Centre. Both events will feature an interpretive timeline of Delta’s history in the form of a static display and a digital kiosk. These installations highlight and celebrate some of the most significant milestones and successes in Delta’s history. In partnership with both the South Delta and North Delta Minor Hockey Associations, the events will be held between 2:30 and 4:30 pm at the Ladner Leisure Centre and between 1:45 and 3:45 pm at Sungod Recreation Centre. United Way Campaign Wrap Up

Council received a presentation on the 2017 United Way Workplace Campaign. This year, the campaign raised $57,471.75 with a focus on Building Stronger Communities.

TransLink’s Southwest Area Transportation Plan

Council received a presentation from the Manager of System Plans at TransLink regarding TransLink’s Southwest Area Transportation Plan.


Zoning Bylaw Update

Council received a presentation from the Director of Community Planning and Development and passed first and second reading of Delta Zoning Bylaw No. 7600, 2017. This amendment serves as a comprehensive review regarding Delta’s Zoning Bylaw. After three years and five phases of intensive review, it is recommended that the bylaw be referred to a Public Hearing on January 30, 2018. View the staff report.


Invest in Delta Mayor’s Standing Committee Update

Council received an update regarding the Invest in Delta Mayor’s Standing Committee. Council approved the recommendation that Mayor Lois E. Jackson be authorized to send a letter to the Delta Chamber of Commerce, Ladner Business Association, Tsawwassen Business Improvement Association, and North Delta businesses to encourage them and their members to support the “Buy Local in Delta” campaign and thanking them for their participation. Delta’s Social Action Plan

Council approved Delta’s Social Action Plan 2018. The Social Action Plan includes a series of results-oriented actions aimed at strengthening Delta’s current social infrastructure and quality of life for residents. This plan mirrors the Social Profile in design and organization of actions in six identified service categories. The Social Action Plan requires continued collaboration and connection in the community, evaluating and reporting on accomplishments and challenges, and continued advocacy and support for local initiatives.
