Keep up-to-date on some of the highlighted events and programs taking place at your fabulous recreation centres this month!

Please note that both Kennedy and McKee Seniors Recreation Centres will be closed on Monday, September 5, for the Labour Day Holiday.

What's Happening in September 

Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre

– Street Photography, by Francois Cleroux –

Date: Thursday, September 8
Time: 7 - 9 pm
Admission: $2

The Kennedy Photographic Interest Group is hosting a presentation by Vancouver-based photographer Francois Cleroux. The former president of the Delta Photo Club is also a CAPA-trained and certified judge, and teaches various photography workshops and classes.  

– Diners Club –

Date: Thursday, September 22
Time: 11:30 am

Opa! This month, the Diners Club makes its way to the Greek Village restaurant at 7953 120 Street. Come enjoy the delicious souvlaki and mouthwatering moussaka with some great company. Sign up at the Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre front desk. 

– Nutrition Through the Ages – 

Date: Wednesdays and Fridays, starting September 28
Time: 9:30 am – 12:15 pm

For six weeks, starting September 28, learn cooking shortcuts through weekly demonstrations, sample tastings and take-home recipies. Partake in the weekly discussions on a variety of nutrition-related topics like the Canadian Food Guide, lable reading, vitamins and minerals, healthy choices, and much more. 

Pre-registration is required. 

McKee Seniors Recreation Centre

– Forever Young 8K 2016–

Date: Sunday, September 11 
Time: 9 am
Location: Garry Point Park, Richmond

The Forever Young 8K is a unique event tailored for active folks aged 55+. Participants can walk, jog, or run the flat, scenic 8K course. All finishers will recieve a medal and tech t-shirt.

Fall Fashion Show & Luncheon

Friday, September 30 
Time: 12 pm
Admission: Members $10/Guests $13

Gail & Trudy are hosting a Fashion Show with pieces from the Delta Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop. This year's theme is Beauty in Bloom and features a menu of beef or veggie lasagna, salad, desser, coffee & tea. Door prizes are available. Tickets go on sale on September 6.

Date: Mondays 
Time: 5 - 6 pm

Instructor Dorothy Embacher leads a total workout combining cardio, muscle strength, balance and flexibility. You'll feel a boost of energy with a serious dose of 'feel good' each time you leave.

Important Information

South Delta Seniors Bus

Delta's new Seniors Bus is now servicing Ladner and Tsawwassen. The 18-seat bus, complete with plenty of space for walkers and equipped with an automatic lift to accommodate wheelchairs and scooters, provides safe door-to-door service. Registration is ongoing and is free for seniors who live in isolation, have mobility issues, or rely on others for their transportation needs.  

New Conveners & New Hobbies

Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre is looking for folks to volunteer their knowledge and talents for particular hobbies or special expertise. If you have new ideas you'd like to see happen at Kennedy, leave your name and contact information at the Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre for Maxine.
