Recreation 50+ Your August Guide

Our seniors recreation centres do a fantastic job of organizing a wide range of fun events and programs for young-at-heart Delta residents. 

Each month, we highlight a few of these events and programs in our Recreation 50+ updates. 

What's Happening in August

McKee Seniors Recreation Centre

*Please note
 McKee will be closed from August 1–9 for annual maintenance.

Harrison Hot Springs Bus Trip
Monday, August 10
Spend a day by the lake! The bus leaves McKee at 9:15 am and returns at approximately 6 pm. Includes lunch at the resort. Cost: Members/$68  Guests/$75. Tickets at the Travel Desk (open Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays from 10:30 am–12:30 pm).

Wellness Through Nutrition Workshops
August 13, 20 & 27 (Thursdays), 10 am–12 pm
Learn how to improve your health through simple changes to the foods you eat. Bring a pen and paper, and bring your questions! All workshops are FREE to attend.

Electric Café
Saturday, August 29, 7–9 pm
Come enjoy '60s coffeehouse-style music and entertainment, featuring Howard Solverson & Guest. Coffee and tea will be served. Cost: Members/$3   Guests/$5. Tickets at the Customer Service Desk.

Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre

*Please note Kennedy will be closed Monday, August 3, for BC Day.

Ladner Village Market Bus Trip
Sunday, August 9, 10:30 am 
Featuring local artists and craftspeople, food vendors, live entertainment, face painting and more, the Ladner Village Market is an event for the whole family! The bus will leave Kennedy at 10:30 am and return at approximately 1:30 pm. Cost: Members/$10  Guests/$12 (does not include lunch).

Crafty Ladies
Tuesdays, 1–3 pm

Join us in the café for great conversation and air-conditioned comfort as you work on your latest needlework project. Everyone is welcome.

Starry Night at Deas Island Park
Saturday, August 15, 7:30 – 10 pm
Experience the magic and mystery of Deas Island Park as it transforms from day to night! This FREE event features discovery stations, drumming, lantern-lit trails and more. Dress for the weather and bring flashlights (this event is stroller accessible). Presented by Delta Parks, Recreation & Culture and Metro Vancouver.

Volunteers Needed!

Calling all Knitters & Crocheters

Click your knitting needles and crochet hooks together and help prevent infant abuse! Help us knit or crochet PURPLE newborn baby caps which will be given to babies in BC hospitals and public health units throughout the month of November. Patterns are available at the Front Desk of Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre. October 2, 2015, is the cut-off date for completed caps. For more information, please contact Franca at the Front Desk.
