Mayor Lois E. Jackson and Mike Brotherston, Manager of Climate Action & Environment, recognized the winners of the 2014 Climate Change Showdown. Congratulations to the Grade 4 and 5 students of Brandy Friesen’s class at Hellings Elementary School for reducing their energy consumption and making a positive impact on our environment!


Community Festival Grant – Tsawwassen Sun Festival
Council approved a recommendation to provide the Tsawwassen Sun Festival Society with a Community Festival Grant of $3,000 to hold the Tsawwassen Sun Festival on August 2–4, 2014. Council also approved recommendations to provide a Facility Rental Grant for the use of the South Delta Recreation Centre, and free use of the Delta showstage and Grauer Park. Staff noted Delta recently acquired portable bike racks to use for community events, which are proving popular. Community groups interested in borrowing the racks for an event should contact the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department. View the staff report.

Dugald Morrison Field House – Award of Contract
Council approved a recommendation to award the contract for the Dugald Morrison Field House project to Xaris Construction Inc., and authorized the Directors of Finance, and Parks, Recreation & Culture to execute the contract. The project is part of the Ladner Sport Field Enhancements Project, and includes plans for a new synthetic turf field at Dugald Morrison Park. View the staff report.

2013 Drinking Water Quality Report
Council received the 2013 Drinking Water Quality Report. Last year, staff conducted more than 1,800 water sample tests from Delta’s drinking water distribution system (obtained from 34 testing stations throughout Delta). Based on the testing results, Delta’s drinking water meets provincial requirements as outlined in the Drinking Water Protection Regulation. Since the Seymour-Capilano Filtration Plant commenced operation in late 2009, Delta has been benefitting from improved water quality. View the staff report.
