Recognition of the Delta Footmen U14 Field Lacrosse Team – Provincial Silver Medalists
Mayor Lois E. Jackson recognized the U14 Field Lacrosse Delta Footmen team with a certificate for winning Silver at the Field Lacrosse Provincial Championships February 21–23, 2014.
New Westminster & District Labour Council Day of Mourning
Council received a delegation from New Westminster & District Labour Council's President, Lori Mayhew, regarding the Day of Mourning for Workers Killed & Injured on the Job, which is on April 28. On the national Day of Mourning, the Corporation of Delta holds a ceremony at Rotary Park in recognition of this important day.
Canadian Cancer Society Delta Relay for Life
Council received a delegation from the Canadian Cancer Society's Delta Relay for Life Organizing Committee that provided an update on this year's event, which will run from 6 pm to 6 am on June 7 at North Delta Secondary School. North Delta Area Plan Bylaws
Council gave first and second readings to proposed Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaws No. 7326 and 7327, and approved the recommendation that the Bylaws be referred to a special Public Hearing on May 13, 2014. The amendments would introduce a new North Delta Area Plan to provide a framework for growth over the next 10 to 20 years, including design guidelines for the form and character of new development. Facility Rental Fee Grant – Delta Music Makers Community Band Society
Council approved the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department's recommendation to award a Facility Rental Fee grant of $1,000 to the Delta Music Makers Community Band Society for use of the Delta Showstage at the annual Ladner Bandfest. View the staff report.
Facility Rental Fee Grants – 2014 Dry Grads
Council approved the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department's recommendation to award three Facility Rental Fee grants of $1,000 each to the Dry Grad Committees of North Delta Secondary School, Delta Secondary School and South Delta Secondary School, for use of the North Delta Recreation Centre, Ladner Community Centre and South Delta Recreation Centre for 2014 Dry Grad events. Invasive Species Management in Delta
Council approved the recommendation that staff develop an invasive plant strategy to support invasive plant management in Delta. Council also approved staff's involvement on the Board of the Invasive Species Council of Metro Vancouver, which supports Delta's initiatives to control invasive plant species. View the staff report.
Fred Gingell Park – Steep Slope Erosion Control and Mitigation Measures
Council approved a proposed work outline that addresses erosion on the steep slope area at Fred Gingell Park, and provided approval for staff to begin implementation. Council also approved a recommendation that staff post signs on site that identify the mitigation work planned. View the staff report.
Port Metro Vancouver Land Use Plan
Council received an update on Port Metro Vancouver's land use planning process, and approved the staff recommendation that Mayor Jackson send a letter regarding Port Metro Vancouver's draft land use plan to provide Delta's feedback for changes. View the staff report.
Ladner Channel Dredging Update
Council received an update on the Ladner Channel dredging program. Dredging of the secondary channels around Ladner started during the week of January 2014 and ceased at the end of March in accordance with Fisheries and Oceans Canada fisheries requirements. Work will recommence after the spring freshet, in late July or August. View the staff report.
United Way Loaned Representative Program
Council supported staff's request that a Corporation of Delta CUPE member be loaned to the United Way of Lower Mainland's 2014 fundraising campaign for a period of four months, as part of the United Way Loaned Representative Program. View the staff report.
