Special Meeting Scheduled to enable City to Levy Fines for Contraventions to Provincial Health Officer's Orders
Mar 24, 2020
A Special Meeting of Delta Council has been scheduled for Wednesday March 25, 2020 at 4:00 pm. At the meeting, Council will consider bylaw amendments to enhance staff's ability to enforce orders directed by the Provincial Health Officer in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the ability to issue tickets and fines.
"We are beyond the point of asking people nicely to comply with orders to protect public health. These additional enforcement measures will allow us to fine people who refuse to comply. I want to be clear: now is the time to stay home and help save lives."
- Mayor George V. Harvie
The City of Delta is under a State of Local Emergency and Mayor Harvie and Delta Council are working hard to protect the community. The State of Local Emergency allows for swift response to the direction of Mayor and Council as outcomes of their daily Council COVID-19 planning sessions. Mayor and Council are also coordinating the COVID-19 response through coordinated efforts with Regional and Provincial counterparts, while required regular Council business continues.
