Delta Council recognized the three winners of the City’s 2018 Community Banner Contest in a special presentation at the January 28, 2019 Regular Meeting:

  • Savina Purewal, winner of the Delta Heritage Category
Savina’s banner, Delta Wetlands, Boundary Bay, illustrates the wildlife and beautiful ocean and wetlands of Delta’s Boundary Bay area at sunset.
  • Dave Stevens, winner of the Discover Delta Category
Dave’s banner is entitled Bog Walk, acknowledging the bog’s significance, illustrating that Burns Bog is unique and worth the many visits people make there. Within the sightlines of house and the noises of the roadways, there lays a beautiful area filled with wildlife, from fish in the stream to eagles in the air.  Dave is a previous winner from the City’s 2014 banner design contest.
  • Gali Kenig, winner of the Child & Youth Category
Gali’s banner, The Birds of Delta, is a wonderful representation of the three communities of Delta. The heron symbolizes Ladner, the bald eagle symbolizes North Delta, and the Coast Salish eagle symbolizes Tsawwassen.

Each winner received an honorarium and a street banner with their winning design to celebrate their achievement. These three designs are also featured on street banners throughout the City from January until May.

“It’s great to see these vibrant new banners showcasing home grown talent on street corridors around Delta,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “Each of these designs represent various cultural, heritage, and environmental elements of our City that make it the desirable and unique destination that it is today.”

The Community Banner Contest is a street banner design competition created to raise awareness of Delta’s natural beauty, culture, and heritage; showcasing local artists, and engaging the community. Details on the 2019 Community Banner Contest will be released in March on delta.ca.
