City Supports Delta Farmers Institute ‘Buy Local’ Initiative

Council approved a request to provide $5,000 in funding to the Delta Farmers Institute, along with use of the City’s logo to support the Institute’s ‘buy local’ direct marketing and communications initiative. The initiative includes the development of a local food brochure directory for Delta, a new website and directory of farm gate sellers; each helping boost support for the buy BC program. Facility Rental Fee Grant Awarded for Annual Ladner Christmas Caroling, Boat and Light Parade

Council approved the allocation of a facility rental fee grant for use of Delta’s showstage to the Ladner Gospel Assembly’s Christmas Caroling and Boat and Light Parade, scheduled for the evenings of December 7 and 8, 2018. View the staff report.


Update on Proposed New Delta Cascades Casino

Council received an update regarding the proposed Cascades Casino gaming facility and entertainment complex in Delta. On November 13th, the BC Lottery Corporation announced the approval of the new gambling and entertainment facility at the former Delta Town & Country Inn site. Construction is expected to commence in early 2019, with the casino anticipated to open in 2020. View the staff report.


North Delta Housing Form & Character

Council endorsed proposed changes to remove the requirement for a development permit for the form and character of a new single family dwellings and duplex dwellings located in North Delta and referred this bylaw to the December 10, 2018 Public Hearing at Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre in North Delta. Changes to Council Service Benefit Bylaw Endorsed

Council gave three readings to an amended Council Members Remuneration Bylaw, which eliminates the Council service benefit for new members of Delta Council, while providing the benefit for service prior to November 5, 2018. Council also endorsed a recommendation to refer the issue of retirement benefits for elected officials to the Union of BC Municipalities. View the staff report.


Update Regarding Green-for-Life Enviro-Smart Composting Facility

Council approved the issuance of a building permit for the fully enclosed Green for Life Environmental composting facility, subject to compliance with the BC Building Code. Council also supported a recommendation for Delta to pursue an amendment to the GFL Air Quality Permit to eliminate any odour emanating from the facility by utilizing best available technologies. Delta has also been granted full third party status in the appeal process and will continue to support a resolution that ensures community odour issues are resolved. View the staff report.


2019 Municipal Appointments to Fraser Valley Regional Library Board

As part of the upcoming year’s municipal appointments, Councillor Dylan Kruger was appointed as Director to the Fraser Valley Regional Library Board of Directors and Councillor Jeannie Kanakos as an alternate member. View the staff report.
