G. MOTIONS ON NOTICE
(G.01) Council
Remuneration
At the September 24, 2018 Regular Council Meeting, Councillor
Kanakos provided the following Notice of Motion for consideration at
the October 15, 2018 Regular Meeting:
“WHEREAS Council passed a motion to address Council
Remuneration for Past Service;
WHEREAS the initial discussions were held In Camera;
WHEREAS the motion and bylaw include a clause which makes
the remuneration for past service ‘retroactive’;
WHEREAS Delta residents have raised concerns regarding how
this bylaw came into effect and also that it is ‘retroactive’;
WHEREAS the formula for remuneration is considered by the
public to be too much for taxpayers to pay without input.
BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
This Council decision on remuneration for past service be
revisited to address the following:
- The deletion of the retroactive nature of the policy and
amount any one on Council could receive;
- to explore options and the possibility of a CAP on
remuneration;
- to hold a public information session on the issue of Council
Remuneration as soon as reasonably possible; and,
- to bring back to a new Council options for consideration that
address the public concerns regarding Council
Remuneration – known as the ‘Golden Handshake’.”
