2018 Heritage Advisory Commission Scholarship

Jul 13, 2018

Mayor Lois E. Jackson, Delta Council and the Heritage Advisory Commission are pleased to announce Aiden Bennett of South Delta Secondary School as the recipient of the 2018 Heritage Commission Scholarship.  His submission combines photos and descriptions in a slide show about the “Vancouver Wireless Station”, which operated from 1949 to 1976.  It is a fascinating artifact of Canada’s and Delta’s role in the Cold War.  Evidence of the community that lived at the Wireless Station is still there, as Aiden’s presentation demonstrates.

“I am so proud of our local graduating students who displayed such a great interest in Delta’s heritage through this scholarship,” said Mayor Lois E. Jackson.  “We received quality submissions that show our heritage is in good hands in the future.”

The Delta Heritage Commission Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating secondary school student in Delta to encourage students to display an interest in local or regional heritage through the development of an original piece of work.  The winner of the 2018 Heritage Commission Scholarship receives $1000 towards post-secondary studies.

Mayor Lois E. Jackson will present the award certificate to Aiden Bennett at the July 30, 2018 Regular Meeting of Council at 7:00 pm in the Council Chambers at Delta Municipal Hall.
