Delta Footmen U11 Field Lacrosse Team

Mayor Lois E. Jackson congratulated the Delta Footmen U11 Field Lacrosse Team for winning the bronze medal at the BCLA U11 Field Lacrosse Provincial Tier Two Championship. Competing at Surrey’s Newton Athletic Park on February 3 and 4, the team rallied against Langley to win the Bronze Medal. Mayor Jackson presented the athletes with a certificate in recognition of their accomplishments.


Birds and Biodiversity Conservation Strategy

Council received a presentation from the Manager of Climate Action & Environment and endorsed the Birds and Biodiversity Conservation Strategy for Delta. The Strategy presents an opportunity to review Delta’s existing policies, programs, and bylaws and build upon the work done to date. Council also approved the proposed activities in support of the 2018 International Ornithological Congress, which includes the installation of Delta branded, bird-focused street banners, as well as a display highlighting the natural attributes of Delta, to be featured in the exhibit hall during the Congress in August.  View the staff report.

Oceans Protection Plan

Council received a summary of programs and initiatives being implemented by the federal government under the Oceans Protection Plan. Staff have gathered information from a number of recent information sessions, most notable of which is the Abandoned Boats Program. Through the Wrecked, Abandoned or Hazardous Vessels Act, the program can aid in proactively dealing with problem vessels. View the staff report.

George Massey Tunnel Replacement Project Update

Council received an update regarding the George Massey Tunnel Replacement Project, particularly in light of the provincial government’s plan to build a replacement for the Pattullo Bridge. 2018 Delta Animal Expo

Council approved that the 2018 Delta Animal Expo be included in the 2018 City Supported Events list. The Expo is set to return after a hiatus in 2017 and is planned for Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Memorial Park. The event features over 50 booths from volunteer organizations and vendors, demonstrations, educational discussions, and much more. While it is free to attend, any fundraising done at the Expo will benefit the Delta Community Animal Shelter’s Tollie Fund. View the staff report.
