Celebrate Diwali

On Sunday, October 15, bring your family to the North Delta Recreation Centre to celebrate Diwali – the Festival of Light. From 2 pm until 5 pm take part in Rangoli, decorate and take your own diya, get a beautiful henna tattoo, and enjoy a variety of delicious sweets. Fire Prevention Week

From October 8 through 14, Delta Fire and Emergency Services will be promoting Fire Prevention Week. This year’s campaign theme is “Every Second Counts: Plan Two Ways Out!”, emphasizing that residents should practice home fire drills twice a year, at night and during the day, and teach children how to escape on their own in case help is not available. Thanksgiving Hours

Please note that the Municipal Hall, Tsawwassen Arts Centre, Delta Community Animal Shelter, and Delta’s Seniors Recreation Centres will be closed due to the Thanksgiving Holiday on Monday, October 9. All Delta recreation centres will be open. Note that Municipal Services will not be available at North Delta Recreation Centre.


Southlands Update

Council received a presentation from Sean Hodgins, President of Century Group, providing a construction update for the Southlands development. View the presentation


Noise Variance: BC Hydro Duct Bank Installation on River Road

Council approved relief from the Delta Noise Control Bylaw No. 1906, 1972 for installation of an underground duct bank and associated structures along River Road, from 76 Street to Huston Road, on behalf of BC Hydro. The period of relief will be granted for work from 7 pm until 7 am from October 16, 2017 through November 4, 2017 and extended at the discretion of the Director of Engineering. During this closure, traffic will be detoured to Vantage Way via 76 Street. View the staff report.

Local Channel Dredging Update

Council received an update on the local channel dredging program. Council approved the recommendations from staff, including that the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority be requested to reallocate any unclaimed funds from the Local Channel Dredging Contribution Program to the Ladner Steveston Local Channel Dredging Program, and that staff report back later this year with the post-freshet survey results and recommendations of the Local Channel Dredging Working Group for maintenance dredging. Council also approved that a letter be sent to John Horgan, Premier of British Columbia, and the Honourable Doug Donaldson, Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources regarding a long-term maintenance dredging program.
