MAYOR’S ANNOUNCEMENTS

#TalkDelta Open House

On Wednesday, September 20th, residents are invited to take part in an important discussion about issues and initiatives in our community at the Talk Delta Public Open House at the North Delta Recreation Centre.

The Open House will run from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and will provide residents with an opportunity to speak with members of Delta Council and senior staff.

At 7:00pm, Mayor Lois E. Jackson will be hosting a Transportation Town Hall to talk about transportation issues affecting Delta. Also, Delta’s Chief Administrative Officer, George V. Harvie, will give a special presentation on the George Massey Tunnel Replacement Project along with a question and answer session.

2017 Canada Summer Games Athletes

Mayor Lois E. Jackson recognized and congratulated the Delta athletes who competed at this year’s Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, July 28 to August 13. These athletes helped British Columbia bring home a record number of medals from the Canada Summer Games, leading B.C. and finishing second in the overall medal standings. Delta athletes won medals in various sports, including softball, triathlon, swimming, volleyball, and wrestling. Mayor Jackson also extended thanks to the dedicated coaches, family members, and supporters, as they were integral to the success of these competitors. The athletes recognized were:

BYLAWS FOR FIRST, SECOND, AND THIRD READINGS 

Business Licence Bylaw

Delta Business Bylaw No. 7670, 2017 received first, second, and third readings. Delta’s current Business Licence Bylaw has been in place, with various amendments, for more than 30 years. The new Delta Business Licence Bylaw No. 7670, 2017 adds regulations for a variety of businesses and supports public safety. View the staff report.

DISCUSSION REPORTS 

George Massey Tunnel – Angus Reid Poll

Council received the report by Chief Administrative Officer George V. Harvie regarding a recent poll completed by Angus Reid Global, on behalf of the BC Road Builders and Heavy Construction Institute and the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies British Columbia, that shows regional support for a new, higher-capacity bridge to replace the George Massey Tunnel. Snow and Ice Control

Council approved the updated Delta Snow & Ice Control Policy, updated route maps, and the new Municipal Facilities Snow & Ice Control Policy, including associated priority maps. The updates ensure that the operational procedures are adapted to better meet the needs of the community. View the staff report. 

Birds & Biodiversity Conservation Strategy Update

Council approved staff recommendations to move forward with the advancement of Delta’s Birds and Biodiversity Conservation Strategy and the opportunity to promote Delta’s natural heritage at the upcoming 2018 Ornithological Congress. View the staff report.
