New Delta Lifeboat Dedication on August 19, 2017

Aug 16, 2017

On Saturday, August 19, 2017, 11 am, Mayor Lois E. Jackson, Delta Council, CAO George V. Harvie, and Directors of the Canadian Lifeboat Institution Inc. (CLI) will celebrate the arrival and dedication of the Delta Lifeboat with an official ceremony at the government wharf in Ladner (north end of Elliott Street).

As of August 19, the former Steveston Lifeboat will be permanently based at Ladner Harbour as the Delta Lifeboat. Operated by Canadian Lifeboat Institution Inc., the boat will provide patrols for search and rescue support to the local fishing and pleasure craft community.

"We are honoured to have the Delta Lifeboat patrolling the Ladner waterfront," says Mayor Lois E. Jackson. "We have a robust fishing and boating community, whose reputation for safety is paramount to our community identity."

The Delta Lifeboat is a 52 ft. length overall, all-weather vessel with a long history of search and rescue in the Fraser River and Strait of Georgia. Canadian Lifeboat Institution Inc. is an extraprovincial not-for-profit society that also operates that Fraser Lifeboat out of Steveston Harbour in Richmond.
