MAYOR’S ANNOUNCEMENTS

Emergency Preparedness Week

Emergency Preparedness Week runs until May 13, during which the Corporation of Delta will be raising awareness around the importance of being prepared to keep your family self-sufficient for 72 hours in the event of an emergency. The three basic elements of being better prepared are: knowing the risks, making an emergency plan, and getting an emergency kit. You can learn more about emergency preparedness at Delta.ca.

Heritage Banner Design Contest

All Delta residents are invited to take part in the 2017 Heritage Banner Design Contest. This annual contest is a fantastic way to showcase Delta’s heritage while also promoting local artists. Winners will be selected for a variety of categories: North Delta, South Delta, and Child/Youth. The overall Grand Prize winner will have their design displayed throughout our community. The deadline for entries is June 2. Learn more at Delta.ca/BannerContest

DISCUSSION REPORTS

Emergency Medical Responder Program

Delta Council received an update regarding the findings from a third-party review of Delta’s Emergency Medical Responder Program. In 2016, Delta Fire & Emergency Services completed its first year of providing enhanced pre-hospital care to Delta residents. Delta commissioned Dr. Martha Dow, Associate Professor in the Department of Social, Cultural and Media Studies at the University of the Fraser Valley, to complete a third-party review of the program and provide feedback. Dr. Dow’s report, Delta Fire & Emergency Services: A Review of the Emergency Medical Responder Program, is based on a review of extensive documentation and data collection including emergency incident data, census statistics, and discussions with key stakeholders. With the health and safety of our residents in mind, Mayor Lois E. Jackson,  Delta Council, Chief Administrative Officer George V. Harvie, along with Fire Chief Dan Copeland and Delta Fire service members, worked tirelessly to implement the Emergency Medical Responder Program.

This program has demonstrated that Delta Fire & Emergency Services is committed to being a progressive partner in the provision of emergency pre-hospital care services. View the staff report.

Delta Council approved the 2016 Consolidated Financial Statements as audited by the accounting firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Canada. The statements have been prepared in accordance with Canadian public sector accounting standards using guidelines established by the Public Sector Accounting Board of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada.
