Recreation 50+: Your May Guide

Spring has sprung in all of it's torrential glory! Fortunately, you know what they say about about April showers, so sunshine and flowers are right around the corner. Gear up and take a look at what's in store for the young-at-heart during the month of May with the latest edition of Recreation 50+.

Please note that both McKee and Kennedy will be closed on Victoria Day, May 22.

Communication Skills Workshop

Want to learn how to be better at conveying your thoughts, feelings, and concerns to other people while also better understanding their point of view? Learn how at the Communication Skills Workshop! Facilitator Jesse Pringle will be teaching members how to react to challenging situations, understand themselves during conflict, manage reactions to feelings of anger or fear, and many other topics. Friday Movie Club - The Big Trees, King Solomon's Mines


Dates: May 5 and 19
Price: Free!

What's better than watching a great movie? Watching a great movie with friends! Enjoy two great films this month, starting on May 5 with the 1952 Kirk Douglas and Eve Miller drama, The Big Trees. Follow that up on May 19 with King Solomon's Mines, an 1950 adventure film starring Deborah Kerr and Stewart Granger.

Doodles, Dots & Designs

Develop your creativity by drawing beautiful images using patterns, dots and designs. The group will build a library of patterns and designs that can be used to create free form, abstract, and representational art work. This therapeutic and meditative activity is for artists of all skill levels. 

Open Mic Night

Singers, poets, actors, writers, musicians, and composers are all welcome to take the stage at Open Mic nights at Kennedy. Come to entertain and to be entertained. This is the last session before the summer break.  

Kennedy Photographic Interest Group Presents: Barry J. Brady

Award-winning photographer Barry J. Brady pays a visit to Kennedy. Currently running the largest photo walking group in Vancouver and a regular contributor to Digital Photography School, the biggest online blog on photography, Barry is known for taking photographs from amazing places like Machu Picchu, Antarctica, the Atacama Desert, and the summit of Mr. Kilimanjaro.

Knitters Needed

Kennedy seniors have done an incredible job of donating baby layettes to Option's Healthiest Baby program. These layettes are given to moms and moms-to-be who are in need. If you'd like to contribute as a knitter, we could always use extra hands to make afghans and sweater sets! 

Delta Seniors Bus Program

The Delta Seniors Bus Program provides transportation within North and South Delta to seniors aged 65 and over who have difficulty accessing public transit. For information on how you can take part in the program, please phone 604-353-6305. 

Smoking Bylaw Amendment 

Get some fresh air because Delta parks and open spaces are smoke-free! Smoking and tobacco products, including vaporizers, are not permitted within the areas of a park or any municipal land.
