Recreation 50+: Your January Guide

Keep up-to-date on some of the highlighted events and programs taking place at your fabulous recreation centres this month!

What's Happening in January

Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre

– Caregivers Support Group –

Date: Wednesday, January 18
Time: 6:30 - 8:30 pm

This support group provides information and access to resources. It is an informal gathering to offer emotional support for those who provide care for an adult friend or family member who is elderly, palliative, chronically ill, or living with a disability.  

– Diners Club – 

Date: Thursday, January  21 

Time: 11:30 am

This month, the Diners Club makes it's way to Boccina's in Surrey! Connect with old friends and meet new ones as you experience a new restaurant. Call Kennedy to register! 

McKee Seniors Recreation Centre

– Jammers –

Date: Thursdays, January 12 & 26 
Time: 7 pm 
Price: Admission $1, Refreshments $1

On the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month, you are invited to break out your musical instrument and join in the jam! Enjoy music, dancing, and light refreshments.

– Friday Sing-A-Long –

Date: Fridays
Time: 12:30 - 1 pm
 

Meet up at McKee, join in on the warm-up at the piano, and then experience the warmth of the Friday Sing-A-Longs. You don't need to be a good singer to join, either! Come fill the centre with wonderful music.

– Introduction to Spanish –

Date: Saturdays
Time: 10 am - 12 pm 
Price: Members $56 /7 sessions, Guests $73 /7 sessions

This class will provides a general introduction to Spanish, and includes pronunciation and functional vocabulary related to everyday life. Cultural information and basic grammatical structures will be explored, and students will learn to carry on a simple conversation. Everyone is welcome.

Delta Museum: Volunteers Needed

Delta Museum is seeking School Program Presenter volunteers to help present to local elementary schools. If you have a keen interest in Delta's history, enjoy working children, have a passion for education, and have a flexible schedule, apply online at Delta.ca/Volunteers!

This is a FREE service available for individuals who are unable to do their own grocery shopping. For more information, please visit the Ladner Save-On-Foods to register. If you would like to volunteer to help take orders or do the grocery shopping, please contact McKee Customer Service Desk at 604-946-1411.

Flu Season is Here

Be sure to take steps to stay healthy this Flu Season! Get your flu shot, wash your hands frequently, and cover your cough with your elbow to reduce the risk of respiratory infections. Stay at home if you think you have an influenza-like illness or a cold. Best to remain at home and limit exposure to others. 

Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions

Presented in cooperation with the University of Victoria Centre on Aging, enroll in this free, six-week workshop at McKee. Learn how to live with the daily challenges that come with chronic health conditions. Learn about healthy eating, exercise, and pain management strategies. Snow Angels

Need some assistance clearing your sidewalks or driveway after all of the winter weather? Delta's Snow Angels Program is here to help! Snow Angels are matched with residents in their neighbourhood. If you, or someone you know, is over 65 years of age, lives in Delta, and would like to access the service or learn more about the program, please call Kennedy at 604‐594‐2717 or McKee at 604-946-1411.
