Operation Red Nose

Operation Red Nose returns for the holiday season to ensure that residents get home safely. This year, the service will be provided on November 25 and 26, as well as December 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, and 31. Please call 604-943-0460 to book a ride. Remembrance Day Hours

With Remembrance Day taking place on Friday, November 11, please be advised that the Municipal Hall, Delta Community Animal Shelter, Arts Centres, and Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre will be closed. Municipal recreation facilities will maintain regular operating hours and McKee Seniors Recreation Centre will host its annual Remembrance Day Pancake Breakfast from 8:00 am until 10:30 am.

Remembrance Day Ceremonies

There are Remembrance Day Ceremonies happening throughout Delta on Friday, November 11 to commemorate and honour Canadian veterans. In North Delta, Kennedy House Seniors Society will be hosting a wreath laying ceremony at the North Delta Social Heart Plaza at 10:40 am. Following the ceremony a public reception will be held at the North Delta Recreation Centre. In Ladner, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch will host a parade starting from the Legion to the Cenotaph at Memorial Park. The parade starts at 10:15 am with the ceremony taking place at 10:40 am. 


Earthquake Protocol Presentation

Council received a presentation regarding Delta’s Staff Earthquake Protocol and viewed the new training video that has been shown to Delta staff and will be integrated into new staff training. The video explained the risk of a major earthquake in British Columbia and highlighted Corporate Earthquake Preparedness. The protocol was created for the worst-case scenario, and as depicted in the video, revolves around staff safety, inside and outside employee protocol, and procedures for at work and at home scenarios. Mayors’ Council 10 Year Vision Phase One

Council received an update and presentation from the Director of Engineering regarding the Mayors’ Council 10 Year Vision for Metro Vancouver Transit and Transportation. On September 16, Metro Vancouver Mayors released a plan for transit and road improvements as part of Phase One of the 10 Year Vision. The improvements would include infrastructure and service expansion. Bus service improvements have been identified in Delta for several routes. View the staff report.

Diefenbaker Playground – Community Initiated Cost-Sharing Project

Council approved the addition of a music-based play space in Diefenbaker Park in partnership with the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen, as part of the Community Initiated Cost Sharing Projects fund. The space, referred to as a musical garden, would be centred on the installation of outdoor, durable percussion instruments for children and youth. This space will benefit children by increasing creativity, social awareness, as well as helping with developing motor skills and coordination. Delta’s contribution to the project would be 50% of the total cost. View the staff report.
