2016 Mayor Jackson's Garden Contest for Kids Winners

At the October 24, 2016 Council Meeting, Mayor Jackson announced the winners of the 2016 Garden Contest for Kids.


The Mayor's Garden Contest for Kids is an annual event to encourage children and youth between the ages of 5 and 16 to be active outdoors and cultivate an appreciation for nature through gardening. The contest featured three categories: two categories for individual entrants, Flower and Vegetable, and a School Classroom category. There was a lot of response from a new crop of gardeners as well as returning gardeners.

Flower Category Winners

First Place Vamakshi Parikh

Second Place Priscilla Nelson

Third Place Juliet Harris-Unger

Vegetable Category Winners

First Place – Ryan Noble

Second Place – Matthew Royer

Third Place – Addyson Maitland

School Classroom Category

First Place – Ms. Bohmert's Grade 4/5 Class, Hawthorn Elementary

All winners received passes for use at Delta recreation facilities.For the School Classroom Category, Ms. Bohmert's class received a wheelbarrow, 10 garden trowels, 10 garden rakes, a load of top soil and a $100 gift card for West Coast Seeds.
