Oct 18, 2016

Office of the Mayor

For immediate release – October 18, 2016

For the fourth consecutive year, the Corporation of Delta has achieved its goal of Carbon Neutrality as part of the joint Provincial-Union of British Columbia Municipalities Green Communities Committee’s (GCC) multi-level Climate Action Recognition Program.

This distinction identifies the Corporation of Delta as a ‘green community’ with Level 3 recognition for achieving carbon neutrality, highlighting Delta’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the community. Since 2012, Delta has been labelled as an environmentally-conscious community by the GCC for its work in environmental protection.

“The behavioural changes we’ve been making organizationally and as a municipality have been paramount in combating climate change,” said Mayor Lois E. Jackson. “We pride ourselves on the work that we’ve done and are honoured to be recognized as a leader in green initiatives.”

Since its establishment in 2007 under the Climate Action Charter, the GCC has been supporting local governments in developing community strategies, actions, supports and incentives in light of the complications of climate change.
