Delta, BC – The Corporation of Delta is proud to announce that it has been recognized for its contribution to the business community with the 2016 Small Business Roundtable’s Open for Business Award. Delta has invested heavily into establishing a fertile environment for business growth and this award celebrates the initiatives and partnerships created by the municipality to enable businesses to succeed. The award was given out at the fourth-annual award ceremony, held during the Union of British Columbia Municipalities annual convention in Victoria, BC.
Under the leadership of Mayor Lois E. Jackson, Delta Council and Chief Administrative Officer George V. Harvie, Delta has cultivated strong relationships with the local business community, which ultimately paved the way for this prestigious award. By working closely with the Delta Chamber of Commerce, Ladner Business Association, Tourism Delta, and the Tsawwassen Business Improvement Association, Delta has been able to support these organizations and individual businesses in a variety of ways, including social media campaigns, business seminars and workshops, community fairs and festivals, and trade and investment missions and initiatives. Delta has also embraced new technology with the BizPal Permitting and Licensing Program; eMobile, ePlan, and eInspection tools; and Online Business Renewal to help reduce red tape for the small business sector.
Furthermore, the Corporation of Delta has adopted the South Delta Business Sustainability Strategy to revitalize the downtown environments of Ladner and Tsawwassen to improve the access, quality and viability of existing businesses and the attraction of new businesses. Delta also has created a variety of economic incentive and tax revitalization programs to encourage development in key business areas throughout the municipality.
Delta’s relationship with the business community is best represented by the ongoing dialogue it maintains with key leaders from the area through recurring Mayor's Economic Breakfast meetings. The most recent meeting took place in January 2016 and solidified Delta’s commitment to economic growth with the theme, “Delta is open for business”. This meeting provided local business leaders with the opportunity to provide feedback and voice concerns directly to Delta’s elected officials and senior staff. This unfiltered access prioritized the needs of the business and development community as an important cog in Delta’s economy.
Delta extends thanks to all of its partners, community organizations, and of course small businesses that have helped to establish a vibrant and healthy business community and to the Small Business Roundtable for recognizing Delta with the Open for Business Award.
