Informational meetings will be held on April 13 at the North Delta Cemetery and on April 14 at the Boundary Bay Cemetery from 4:30 until 7:30 pm. Both meetings will feature the conceptual work and designs created from the feedback gathered at the 2015 Open Houses and online survey. Go to Delta.ca for more information.

DISCUSSION REPORTS

Residential Wood Smoke Particulate Emissions

Council approved the recommendation that a letter be sent from Mayor Lois E. Jackson to the Metro Vancouver Board of Directors in support of further measures to address residential wood smoke emissions in the region. While legislation does exist at a provincial and regional level to prohibit the use of wood burning appliances if they’re polluting, enforcement is challenging. The proposed revisions to the Solid Fuel Burning Domestic Appliance Regulation will regulate the sale of wood burning appliances so that only models that meet modern emission standards will be permitted for sale. British Columbia Air Access Program 2016/2017 Grant Application

Council approved the application submission for funding through the BC Air Access Program (BCAAP) for a Helipad Expansion Project at Boundary Bay Airport. This 3-year program is an initiative of the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to support infrastructure improvements for regional and small community airports across the province. The funding would go towards relocating two existing helipads and developing two new helipads to accommodate flight school and economic development at Boundary Bay Airport. View the staff report.

Meetings with Federal Officials in Ottawa

Council approved the travel of a delegation to Ottawa to meet with federal government officials to discuss several priority issues for Delta. The delegation would consist of Mayor Lois E. Jackson, George V. Harvie, Chief Administrative Officer, Chief Constable Neil Dubord, and Dona Packer, Executive Assistant to the Mayor. The delegation will travel to Ottawa on April 10, returning on April 14. Some of the issues for discussion include: Medical marihuana regulations, downloading of DNA analysis costs to local governments, George Massey Tunney Replacement Project, Sunbury interchange, New Building Canada Fund, Additions to Reserve/Reserve Creation Policy, funding for local channel dredging, and harm reduction and the Fire Department’s use of Naloxone.
