Delta Bird and Biodiversity Strategy
Feb 03, 2016
Delta Council has approved the creation and implementation of a Delta Bird and Biodiversity Strategy!
This strategy would include six objectives including habitat identification and protection, habitat enhancement, enhancement of awareness and access to nature, reduction of threats to urban and rural birds and biodiversity, promotion of bird related local and visitor tourism, and identification of partners and cultivation of leadership.
The strategy would be developed in cooperation with the Delta Naturalists’ Society and other partners, who would reach out to the organizers of the 2018 International Ornithological Congress.
The 2018 International Ornithological Congress will be coming to Vancouver in August of 2018. Since the start of the Congress in 1884, Canada has hosted only once previously, Ottawa in 1986, and Vancouver will be the first time the Congress has been on the Pacific Coast of the Americas. This conference will attract about 2,000 people and occurs every four years.
While 2018 seems far away, we are already working with the organizers as Delta will be a major birding destination during the Congress.
