MAYOR'S ANNOUNCEMENTS

Dugald Morrison Field House Grand Opening

The opening of the new Field House at Dugald Morrison Park marked the completion of the Ladner Sport Field Enhancement Project, which began in 2014 with the opening of Cromie Park baseball diamond and the Dugald Morrison synthetic field. We extend a huge thank you to the Ladner Storm girls’ soccer team, winners of the 2012 BMO Team of the Week, for providing a significant funding contribution for the Field House.

Stage 1 Water Restrictions
Much-needed rainfall and cooler temperatures have stabilized reservoir levels, prompting Metro Vancouver to downgrade water restrictions to Stage 1, which will remain in effect until October 15. Residents are reminded that there are still some regulations around residential and commercial sprinkling, so please continue to use water wisely. For a complete list of permitted uses, visit Delta.ca.

DISCUSSION REPORTS

Fire Prevention Week

From October 4–10, 2015, Delta Fire & Emergency Services will raise awareness about the dangers of fire and how to stay safe with working smoke alarms. This year’s theme is Hear the BEEP where you SLEEP. Approximately half of home fire deaths result from fires reported between 11 pm and 7 am, when most people are asleep, so having a smoke alarm drastically reduces the chances of dying in a house fire! As in previous years, Fire Prevention Week will kick off the department’s school program and Fire Chief for the Day program.

The Great British Columbia ShakeOut
“Drop, Cover, Hold On!” The BC Earthquake Alliance Society is once again organizing ShakeOut BC, a province-wide earthquake drill on October 15, 2015 at 10:15 am, to heighten awareness of the hazard that earthquakes pose and encourage personal emergency preparedness. The Corporation of Delta will join other organizations around the province to take part in the drill. Individuals and businesses can become official participants by registering with ShakeOut BC.

Port Community Liaison Committee Update
The Port Community Liaison Committee (PCLC) was formed by Port Metro Vancouver, and works to address port-related issues in Delta. Updates from a recent PCLC meeting were provided to Council on issues and projects including road and railway improvements, environmental assessments and review processes, installation of shore power facilities, and energy efficiency strategies.
