Delta Recognized for Achievement of Carbon Neutrality

Sep 29, 2015

The Corporation of Delta has received an award for its environmental efforts by Green Communities Committee (GCC), a joint program between the Province of British Columbia and the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM).

Branded as a ‘green community’, Delta has been given Level 3 recognition for Achievement in Carbon Neutrality by the GCC, the third time the municipality has been given that distinction. This acknowledgment highlights Delta’s commitment to work with the Province and UBCM to take action on climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the community.

“We are very proud of the work that has been done to direct us towards this recognition,” said Mayor Lois E. Jackson. “Delta has been invested in developing ourselves as an environmentally-conscious community and a leader in green initiatives.”

Established in 2007, The GCC was created under the Climate Action Charter to support local governments, like the Corporation of Delta, in developing community strategies, actions, supports and incentives in light of climate change.
