Delta Islanders Intermediate B Lacrosse Team

Congratulations to the Delta Islanders Intermediate B Lacrosse Team on winning the Bronze Medal at the BC Provincial Lacrosse Championship. The team defeated Ridge Meadows 7 – 5 to win the Bronze and also accumulated a collection of personal awards including All-Star Team selections for Cody Hoegg and Matthew Hills, Goaltending Award to Philip Hladkey van der Buxusson, Coach of the Year to Scott Liebich, and four players being named to the Scoring Leader Board. Fantastic work, gentlemen!

75th Battle of Britain Commemorative Parade

On Sunday, September 20, the Boundary Bay Airport hosts the 75th Battle of Britain Commemorative Parade alongside 801 Wing, RCAF Association of Canada with support of the BC Committee of the Air Cadet League of Canada, and the Regional Cadet Support Unit – Pacific. The parade commemorates 75 years since the RAF Fighter Command defeated the Luftwaffe and will feature World War II veterans parading alongside Royal Canadian Air Force Members and Air Cadets. Festivities start at 1:30 pm.  

Stage 2 Water Restrictions

Cooler and wetter weather has led to Metro Vancouver lowering Water Restrictions to Stage 2. While citizens are reminded to be mindful of their water usage, restricted residential lawn sprinkling and vehicle washing are now permitted. For a complete list of permitted uses, head to  

Medal of Good Citizenship Award

Delta residents are invited to nominate a member of the community, who has demonstrated commitment, generosity, and selflessness to the long-term benefit of Delta, for the Medal of Good Citizenship Award. This is a new honour, bestowed by the provincial government, to acknowledge service done by exceptional individuals. The deadline for nominations is September 25, 2015. Agriculture Climate Change Adaptation Plan

Council received an update on the Agriculture Climate Change Adaptation Program. With completion of Year two of the three year program nearing for November 2015, Council approved a final $10,000 towards Year three. The Year three plan for the program has been drafted and focuses its efforts on the study of salinity of the lower Fraser River. View the staff report.

Vancouver Airport Fuel Delivery Project

Council received an update on the proposed fuel delivery system to the Vancouver International Airport by the Vancouver Airport Fuel Facilities Corporation. The project received conditional environmental approvals in late 2013, with a public consultation scheduled for September 17 at the East Richmond Community Hall and written comments being accepted until September 28, 2015. Next steps include a commitment to review the final spill response plan with Delta and prepare and implement a Fire Safety Plan in consultation with Delta Fire Department. View the staff report.

Provincial Climate Leadership Plan

Council received a summary regarding the proposed Provincial Climate Action Leadership Plan, including information about the consultation process and feedback regarding the proposed plan. The new plan outlines new policy projects and regulations meant to address the remaining 13 million tonnes of greenhouse gases the Province must reduce to meet the 2050 target set out under the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Targets Act. Written comments about the proposed plan are due to the province this week, with recommendations being presented in October 2015.  View the staff report.
