Kick Off Emergency Preparedness Week with Quake Cottage on May 4

May 01, 2015

Kick off Emergency Preparedness Week (May 3–9) at Harris Barn on the evening of Monday, May 4 with Quake Cottage!

Quake Cottage is a mobile earthquake simulator that allows people to experience the impact of an earthquake, and motivates you to get prepared for an emergency disaster. Bring your family and neighbours to Harris Barn from 4:30–8 pm on Monday, May 4, to experience the Quake Cottage for yourself.

The free event at Harris Barn will also feature a presentation by UBC Professor Stephanie Chang about What Happens to Communities in Earthquakes (7–9 pm). There will be informational booths from Emergency Management BC, Red Cross, and more, and the opportunity to learn what you need to create your own emergency kit or purchase a pre-made emergency kit at the event.

Activities for Emergency Preparedness Week continue in Delta with two Ask the Experts workshops:

  • Tuesday, May 5 – Preparing & Mobilizing Your Family – What to do After a Disaster with special guest Carolyn Sinclair
  • Wednesday, May 6 – Fire Safety and Fire Extinguisher Training with Derek Christiansen from Delta Fire & Emergency Services
