MAYOR'S ANNOUNCEMENTS


North Delta #TalkDelta Public Open House – Wednesday, April 15
Mayor Lois E. Jackson invited the North Delta community to come cheer on the Canucks with her while checking out the final #TalkDelta Public Open House. The Open House is from 4-9 pm at Sungod Recreation Centre, and the Canucks game will be showing.

Spring Clean-Up
Mayor Jackson reminded Delta residents that the annual Spring Clean-Up starts this week. Dates: Monday, April 13 in Tsawwassen; Tuesday, April 14 in Ladner; Wednesday, April 22 for Wednesday collection in North Delta; and Thursday, April 23 for Thursday collection in North Delta.

April 17 Pro D Day
This Friday, April 17 is a Pro D Day for Delta students. Check out the many fun activities planned at our local recreation centres, including day camps, gym & swims, musical theatre and more.

Watershed Creek Fish Release
The 13th Annual Watershed Creek Fish Release is on Sunday, April 19. Families and kids are welcome to the educational and fun event that promotes environmental awareness and helps boost local fish stock. There is also a free birding and nature walk offered by the Delta Naturalists’ Society starting at 11:30 am.

Delta Triathlon Volunteers
The 16th annual Delta Triathlon is coming up on Saturday, April 25. Mayor Jackson noted that organizers are still in need of volunteers, and encouraged people to sign up to donate their time and volunteer for a fantastic event.

DELEGATIONS/PRESENTATIONS


Hunting Along Boundary Bay
Council received a delegation from a representative of the Delta-Ladner Rod & Gun Club who presented about their organization and hunting along Boundary Bay. 

Council also approved recommendations to amend "Discharge of Firearms Regulation Bylaw No. 2155, 1974" to prohibit the discharge of firearms within 150 m from the seaward toe of the dike on public access dikes (excluding Westham Island) in the Corporation of Delta, and approved the staff recommendation to send a letter to Federal and Provincial governments requesting enforcement of hunting regulations on the Corporation of Delta's dikes. View the staff report.

DISCUSSION REPORTS


Social Planning
Council endorsed recommendations that Delta continue to incorporate social planning initiatives in each department, and as staff vacancies arrive, job specifications include qualifications on addressing social needs within the community. As part of the 2015 financial planning process, Council enquired about the need for a dedicated social planner.  View the staff report.

Arts Community Facilitation
Council approved the Parks, Recreation & Culture department's recommendations that Delta staff facilitate meetings with Delta-based arts groups four times per year. The recommendation is in response to a special meeting of the Parks, Recreation & Culture Commission and representatives from six arts groups, which helped define how the arts groups and Delta can work together to promote arts programs in the community.  View the staff report.

Grauer Park Enhancements
Council approved recommendations to add a bike pump track, skatepark lighting, and a playground at Grauer Park in Tsawwassen, subject to funding provided by the Tsawwassen Boundary Bay Lions Club. View the staff report.
