In Memory of Wally Davyduke
Mayor Lois E. Jackson acknowledged the passing of long-time resident and Burns Bog advocate Wally Davyduke. Wally was a founding member of the Burns Bog Conservation Society and was instrumental in the construction of boardwalks to protect the sensitive natural habitat in the Delta Nature Reserve. He worked tirelessly to preserve, maintain, and enhance the boardwalks to protect the ecologically sensitive area. On behalf of Council, Mayor Jackson extended sincere condolences to Eliza Olsen and to Wally’s friends and family.
Message from Mayor in Delta Flat Rate Utility Notices
Mayor Jackson advised residents that the 2015 Delta Utility Bills will be mailed this week. Look for a Mayor’s Message on the upcoming Metro Vancouver Transportation and Transit Referendum included with Delta’s 2015 Utility Bill. Mayor and Council are encouraging citizens to take the time to learn about the Referendum and make an informed vote. Council is also seeking public feedback on the Referendum and transportation initiatives in our community.

Pink Shirt Day – February 25, 2015
Mayor Jackson encouraged residents to join her and many others in wearing pink this Wednesday, February 25, in support of Pink Shirt Day, a day that raises awareness about bullying. This is an issue that can affect anyone, anywhere, and we all need to do our part to put a stop to it!
Delta Idol – February 27, 2015
This Friday, Delta Parks, Recreation & Culture will host the 2nd annual Delta Idol Competition at the Tsawwassen Arts Centre. This is the performance finale – a panel of judges will choose a winner amongst this year’s top 10 finalists. The competition runs from 7pm to 10pm. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or by calling 604-943-9437. View the Delta Idol performance finalists list.
2015 Heritage Banner Design Contest
Council approved hosting the 2015 Heritage Banner Design Contest, which will run from March 30 to June 1, 2015. Delta is hoping to build on the success of last year’s contest and increase participation. View the staff report.
Invest in Delta Mayor’s Standing Committee
Council approved an Invest in Delta Mayor’s Standing Committee, which will replace the former Invest in North Delta Mayor’s Standing Committee, to encourage economic investment with the objective of ensuring the long-term vibrancy and attractiveness of Delta’s communities. View the staff report.
Raccoon Population Management
Council approved a staff update regarding raccoon complaints in Delta, raccoon management options, and raccoon deterrent practices for residents. Staff continues to work with residents to address raccoon concerns and to mitigate nuisance wildlife behavior in community neighbourhoods. View the staff report.
