Local Fire Departments Show Solidarity & Honour Captain Mark Janson
Jan 29, 2015
In a show of solidarity, fire departments from nearby municipalities are supporting Delta Fire & Emergency Services by providing coverage of Delta's fire halls and responding to emergency incidents on Wednesday, allowing Delta Fire's first line responders to honour Captain Mark Janson at his Celebration of Life.
"We are really very touched by the incredible support from our neighbouring fire departments. The sense of community and unity being displayed is something you can't put words to," says Mayor Lois E. Jackson.
"It speaks volumes to Captain Mark Janson's memory and what a loved and respected Captain and person he was," says Delta Fire Chief Dan Copeland.
This is the first time in history, fire departments from across the region have united together to provide coverage for another municipality for such an occasion. Vancouver, New Westminster, Richmond and Surrey Fire Departments coordinated to cover Delta's seven fire halls throughout North Delta, Ladner and Tsawwassen.
On behalf of Council and Delta Fire & Emergency Services, Mayor Lois E. Jackson and Chief Copeland express sincere gratitude and thanks to the Vancouver, New Westminster, Richmond and Surrey Fire Departments and first responders.
