MAYOR'S ANNOUNCEMENTS


Emergency Response to localized flooding in Boundary Bay and Beach Grove
Mayor Lois E. Jackson discussed last week’s storm surge and recognized emergency response and operations staff for their quick and unified action. Staff will continue to closely monitor the weather conditions and tide patterns over the next several weeks to ensure quick mitigation and protection efforts in the event of a storm surge or severe weather event.

Holiday Hours of Operation
Municipal Hall will be closed December 24, 25, 26, and January 1. Please visit delta.ca for a full list of hours of operation for Delta facilities

Holiday Skates – Polar North & Winter Wonderland
Mayor Jackson reminded families to visit the Polar North and Winter Wonderland skates and enjoy a hot chocolate at the North and South Delta Recreation Centres. Visit Delta’s website for full details.

Lions Club 2015 Tree Chipping Dates
For those who have a real Christmas tree that needs to be recycled after the holidays, the annual Lions Club tree chipping events will be held the following dates:

  • North Delta – January 3rd and 4th at Sungod Recreation Centre
  • South Delta – January 10th and 11th at Ladner Memorial Park and the South Delta Recreation Centre
Holiday Greetings and Next Meeting of Council

On behalf of Council, Mayor Jackson wished Delta residents and businesses a happy and safe holiday season. The next meeting of Delta Council will be held on Monday January 12, 2015 in the Council Chambers at Delta Municipal Hall.

Agriculture Climate Change Adaptation Program Update
Council received an update on the progress of the BC Agriculture Council’s Agriculture and Food Climate Action initiative in Delta, and was informed on year two’s project goals. In August 2012, the Corporation of Delta was one of three communities invited to participate in a pilot project looking at the potential impacts of climate change on agriculture. Year one of the implementation phase is complete, and year two is underway and will be completed by March 2015. View the staff report.

Delta Street Roadway Improvements Contract Approved
Council awarded a contract to initiate design work for the Delta Street Roadway Improvements Project in Ladner Village. This project includes improvements along Delta Street, between 48 Avenue and Chisholm Street, to address existing sidewalk heaving due to tree roots, improve drainage, replace outdated street light poles and fixtures, repaving and upgrades to watermain infrastructure. Canada Post - Community Mail Box Transition
Council received an update on Canada Post’s upcoming transition to community mailboxes in Ladner. On December 4, 2014, Canada Post announced that the V4K postal code, which is all of Ladner, will be the first area in Metro Vancouver to transition from door-to-door residential mail delivery to community mailboxes. Following a period of consultation with residents and the Corporation of Delta about preferred locations for the community mailboxes, Canada Post’s transition is anticipated to be complete by April 1, 2015.
