2014 Open for Business Awards
Mayor Lois E. Jackson announced that Delta has been selected as a finalist for the Province's 2014 Open for Business Awards. We look forward to the announcement of the winning community on September 24 at the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) annual convention. Deputy Chief Constable Lyle Beaudoin receives Highest Honour
On behalf of Council, Mayor Lois E. Jackson congratulated Deputy Chief Constable Lyle Beaudoin on receiving the Order of Merit of the Police Forces from Canada's Governor General this past week.  

UBCM Convention
Mayor Jackson and Council will be attending the UBCM convention in Whistler from September 22–26. There is no Council Meeting that week; the next Council Meeting will be on Monday, September 29, in North Delta at the Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre at 7 pm. 

Delta Hospital Foundation Moonlight Gala
The Delta Hospital Foundation Moonlight Gala is on Saturday, September 20, starting at 5:30 pm. The black-tie gala raises funds for Delta Hospital. 

Battle of Britain
The 74th Annual Battle of Britain Commemorative Parade at Boundary Bay Airport is on Sunday, September 21. Approximately 1,000 Royal Canadian Air Cadets from the Lower Mainland will gather to honour veterans of the historic battle. The parade starts at 2 pm. 


Delta Islanders Bantam A1 Lacrosse Team
Mayor Lois E. Jackson recognized the Delta Islanders Bantam A1 lacrosse team for winning Gold at the Provincial games. Congratulations to the team and coaches on an amazing year!

Seniors Expo
Council viewed a presentation by Parks, Recreation & Culture staff on the upcoming Seniors Expos. McKee Seniors Recreation Centre is hosting an Expo on Saturday, September 20, and Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre is hosting an Expo on Saturday, October 4. View event information on the upcoming Expos. 


Roberts Bank T2 Review Panel Terms of Reference
Council approved the staff recommendation to request that the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency's Terminal 2 Review Panel Terms of Reference include a separate section that addresses local government issues. The Agency has developed draft terms of reference for the review panel for Terminal 2 and is inviting public and stakeholder comments by September 22, 2014. View the staff report. 

Inland Port Study
Council received a summary of findings from the Inland International Cargo Facility Study, a document and analysis on an inland ports initiated by the Corporation of Delta.
The study demonstrates that an inland terminal  generates significant traffic, economic, social and environmental benefits; however, additional work is required to further understand the impacts and efficiencies of the inland port model. In order to take this concept and study to the next level, Delta is seeking collaboration and funding from other levels of government. View the staff report. 

Medical Marihuana
Council received an update addressing unresolved questions about the Federal licensing of medical marihuana production facilities and the Provincial government's decision to not approve Delta's proposed bylaw for lands within the Agricultural Land Reserve. Council approved staff recommendations to send letters to respective governing Federal and Provincial agencies requesting further information, and to place new applications on hold pending the receipt of responses.
