Congratulations to Krista Popowych, Fitness Instructor of the Year!
Mayor Lois E. Jackson congratulated Ladner's Krista Popowych on receiving the IDEA Health and Fitness Association's Fitness Instructor of the Year award. Popowych regularly instructs at the Ladner Leisure Centre.
North Delta WHL Preseason Invitational
The Vancouver Giants hosted the North Delta WHL Preseason Invitational at Sungod Arena on Saturday, September 6, and Mayor Lois E. Jackson was honoured to drop the puck for the Vancouver Giants' first game of the weekend. The regular season starts on Saturday, September 20.
All FVRL Libraries Closed on Friday, September 12
Please be advised that all FVRL libraries will be closed on Friday, September 12, for a Staff Professional Development Day. This includes all Delta libraries (George Mackie, Ladner Pioneer and Tsawwassen).
Dugald Morrison Park Turf Field Opening
On Saturday, September 13, Mayor Lois E. Jackson and Council will unveil the new synthetic turf field at Dugald Morrison Park, completed as part of the Ladner Sport Field Enhancement Project.
North Delta Recreation Centre Expansion Celebration
Also on Saturday, September 13, Mayor Jackson and Council will celebrate the start of construction of the North Delta Recreation Centre Expansion at the Social Heart Plaza from 1–3 pm. The official celebration will be followed by a BBQ and staff will be available to answer questions during the event. Please be advised that there is limited access to North Delta Recreation Centre during construction.
Delta Firefighters Charitable Society Annual Harvest Festival
The Delta Firefighters Charitable Society is hosting its annual Harvest Festival fundraiser on Saturday, September 13, to celebrate harvest season and raise funds for local charities. Visit www.deltafirefighters.com for more information.
Terry Fox Run
The Terry Fox Run is this Sunday, September 14, with routes in North and South Delta. Take part to celebrate the life of Terry Fox and raise funds for cancer research.
Child & Youth $20 Unlimited Drop-in Pass Promotion
On August 27, Mayor Lois E. Jackson and Council were pleased to extend Delta Parks, Recreation & Culture's $20 unlimited child and youth drop-in recreation facility pass promotion until September 30.
Cogeneration Facilities at Greenhouses – Final Consideration and Adoption of Bylaw No. 7286
Council finally considered and adopted Bylaw No. 7286, which allows for the establishment of combined heat and power generation (cogeneration) facilities in association with greenhouse operations in the A1 Agricultural Zone. View the staff report.
Fraser Surrey Docks Direct Transfer Coal Facility
In response to Port Metro Vancouver's recent approval of the Fraser Surrey Docks Direct Transfer Coal Facility, Council approved the staff recommendation that a letter from Mayor Jackson be sent to Port Metro Vancouver, including comments related to the lack of specific details in some of the Project Permit conditions, a request that a copy of the Air Quality Management Plan for the Direct Transfer Coal Facility be provided to the Independent Interagency Review Committee, and a request that the Plan include air quality monitoring along the rail transportation route. Earth Hour City Challenge
Council approved the Corporation of Delta's participation in the 2014/15 Earth Hour City Challenge. Hosted by the World Wide Fund for Nature and supported by ICLEI Local Governments for Sustainability, the event is a global sustainability competition for cities. View the staff report.
