Update: Dead Salmon found floating in Ladner Harbour

Aug 08, 2014

Earlier this week, the Corporation of Delta received reports of dead sockeye salmon floating in Ladner Harbour, creating concern that the river had become polluted.

The Corporation of Delta Climate Action and Environment (CAE) staff promptly visited the harbour to investigate the issue. There were approximately 120 dead sockeye counted, and the fish were several days old and covered in net markings. CAE staff concluded the fish were either spilled or dumped by someone that had previously caught the fish.

Delta residents can be assured that the fish were not killed as a result of a pollutant in the river. This incident has been reported to Fisheries and Oceans Canada. The fish that are accessible are being collected and disposed of.
