2014 Heritage Scholarship Recipient
Mayor Lois E. Jackson presented the 2014 Heritage Advisory Commission Scholarship to Emily Lieuwen for her book, Ladner: Then & Now, which is a collection of photographs comparing various locations in Ladner 50 years ago to the sites that exist today. Noah Driscoll and Tiffany Chan each received an Honourable Mention. Congratulations to all of the participants!

The Heritage Advisory Commission Scholarship of $750 is awarded annually to a graduating Delta high school student that has demonstrated an interest in local or regional heritage through an original piece of work. 


Energy Ambassadors Environmental Awareness Program
Council received a delegation from Mary Zuccaro, Energy Specialist, Delta School District, Harleen Dhami and Simran Grewal, North Delta Secondary School students, and Lucia Lin and Sarthak Garg, Seaquam Secondary School students, who gave a presentation regarding the Energy Ambassadors Environmental Awareness Program. Council enthusiastically supported the Energy Ambassadors Program, offering Delta's help in promoting the poster contest and public messaging related to environmental awareness and action. 

Fire Hazard Response Update
Council viewed a presentation by Fire Chief Dan Copeland regarding Delta's plan to mitigate extreme fire hazard conditions. View the presentation.


Rezoning and Subdivision at 10993 64A Avenue
Council gave first and second readings to Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 7328, and approved the staff recommendation to refer Bylaw No. 7328 to a Public Hearing, which is to be held in North Delta this September. This bylaw would allow subdivision of the subject property at 10993 64A Avenue into two single family lots. View the staff report.


Burns Bog Agreements
Council authorized Mayor Jackson and the Delta Municipal Clerk to sign all documents relating to the co-ownership and management of the Burns Bog properties between Delta and Metro Vancouver, including the Local Government Burns Bog Operating Agreement, the Licence of Use Agreement for 7450 80th Street, all statutory rights-of-way, subdivision plans, transfers and covenants. Staff also provided an update on the addition of lands to the Burns Bog Ecological Conservancy Area, noting they are working on necessary approvals and legal agreements. View the staff report.

Provincial Agricultural Land Commission Non-farm Use and Rezoning
5300 34B Avenue (BC Turf Ltd.)

Council approved the staff recommendation to forward an application for a non-farm use at 5300 34B Avenue to the Provincial Agricultural Land Commission. The non-farm use would permit the relocation and expansion of West Coast Seeds Ltd.'s business operation to the property at 5300 34B Avenue, which is located in the Agricultural Land Reserve.
