Delta Irrigation Enhancement Program
Council viewed a presentation by Hugh Fraser, Deputy Director of Engineering, and David Ryall, President of the Delta Farmers’ Institute, regarding the Delta Irrigation Enhancement Program.
Cogeneration Facilities at Greenhouses
Council approved zoning amendments and gave second reading to Cogeneration Facilities Bylaw No. 7286, regarding combined heat and power generation at greenhouses in the agricultural land reserve. The amendments address comments received from the Ministry of Agriculture and Delta Farmers’ Institute. View the staff report.
Ladner Leisure Centre Update
Council received an update on the Ladner Leisure Centre retrofit work, which is proceeding on schedule and within budget. Key milestones completed from May 7–May 30 include: structural survey completed, north stucco façade was removed and disposed, and Elemental Architectural and Interiors Inc. submitted design drawings. Moving forward, upcoming key milestones for June include: demolition of remaining stucco walls, procurement and installation of the roof parapet, and all project design work will be completed. The total budget for the Ladner Leisure Centre project is $3.8 million inclusive of GST. View the staff report.
Port Metro Vancouver Response to Independent Interagency Review Committee Letter
Council received information on Port Metro Vancouver’s response to the joint letter from the Independent Agency Review Committee, and approved the recommendation that Mayor Lois E. Jackson send letters of support for the review committee letters to Ministers and regulatory authorities. The Port Metro Vancouver response addresses the Metro Vancouver Air Quality Permit issues and the transportation of coal to and from the proposed Fraser Surrey Docks facility issues. Coal Dustfall Monitoring Update
Council received a report providing the preliminary results of a recent coal dustfall monitoring project conducted by staff. The results obtained so far are from only the first month of sampling and will be integrated and analyzed with future Delta and Metro Vancouver results. Council approved the recommendations to provide results to the Independent Interagency Review Committee for review, and to authorize the University of British Columbia to set up air quality monitoring equipment at John Oliver Park.
