Fraser Valley Regional Library (FVRL) Update
Council viewed a presentation by Gillian McLeod, Library Manager, Fraser Valley Regional Library, providing an overview of new FVRL initiatives and recent anniversary celebrations at Delta libraries. View the presentation.

Delta Trades & Technical Career Fair
Council viewed a presentation by Ken Kuntz, Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture, providing results of the second annual Delta Trades & Technical Career Fair, held on Thursday, April 24. With more than 75 interactive exhibits and approximately 3,500 attendees, the Career Fair was a great success.  View the presentation.

Mayor's Industrial Business Breakfast
Council viewed a presentation by George V. Harvie, Chief Administrative Officer, providing an update on the Mayor's Industrial Business Breakfast, held on Friday, April 25. Approximately 160 local business, government and community stakeholders attended the event to discuss economic and commercial development in Delta. View the presentation.

DISCUSSION REPORTS


Vancouver Landfill Methane Emissions
Council received information regarding the total amount of methane generated at the Vancouver Landfill and other landfills in the region, as requested at the April 14, 2014 Council Meeting. Since 2011, significant improvements in the total quantity of methanie collected and the resulting landfill gas collection efficiency have been achieved. View the staff report.

BNSF Railway Company North Colebrook Update
Council received an update on BNSF Railway Company's proposed siding extension in North Delta. BNSF has recently provided staff with a Summary Description of the North Colebrook Siding Project. Among other points, the project summary notes that the proposed siding extension area has increased by approximately 2.5 kilometres, and that a future twin track design expansion from south of River Road to Elevator Road in Surrey is planned. BNSF has made Delta aware of its intentions; however, the company has not provided Delta with formal notification as prescribed in the Railway Safety ActView the staff report.
