Battle of the Badges Hockey Game
Chief Constable Jim Cessford, Delta Police, and Chief Dan Copeland, Delta Fire & Emergency Services delivered a presentation on the upcoming Battle of the Badges charity hockey game at Sungod Arena on January 25 at 7:00 pm. The game is an opportunity for the community to meet their Delta first responders in a relaxed environment. All proceeds from the evening will go to support the Delta Firefighters Charitable Society, Cops for Cancer and the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Tickets for the game are $5 for youth and $10 for adults and are available from Delta Police Headquarters, the North Delta Public Safety Building, or online.

Referral of Southlands Application to Metro Vancouver
Council resolved to send a letter to Greg Moore, Chair of the Metro Vancouver Board of Directors, to initiate the referral process and formalize Delta’s request for amendments to the Regional Growth Strategy for portions of the Southlands properties. The Metro Vancouver process is expected to take several months. It is anticipated that upon receipt of the letter, Metro Vancouver staff will provide Delta with further information regarding the steps and approximate timeline for the Metro Vancouver process. Ladner Channel Dredging Update
The federal government recently approved in-river dispersal for dredged material and Environment Canada has issued permits to dispose of the dredged material from Sea Reach (200,000 m3), Ladner Harbour (250,000 m3) and Deas Slough (75,000 m3). Port Metro Vancouver is now working with the contractors, Vancouver Pile & Dredge and Fraser River Pile & Dredge, in preparation for the start of dredging. It is anticipated that dredging will start at the end of January and continue until the end of March. Work will resume again after the fisheries closure, likely towards the end of August. Phase 2 dredging will continue next fall and winter with expected completion by spring 2015. View the staff report 

Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Project Referred to Review Panel
Council resolved to send a letter to the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment and Minister responsible for the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, thanking her for her support of Delta’s request in referring the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 project to an environmental assessment by an independent review panel. Following its establishment, the review panel will have 14 months to submit its report, followed by five months for the Minister to provide a decision statement. View the staff report

Cancellation of Joint Emergency Preparedness Program Funding
Council requested that the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, restore funding of the Joint Emergency Preparedness Program to 2009 levels and to ensure that funding continues for the Joint Emergency Preparedness Program to build capacity and manage emergencies. Vancouver Airport Fuel Delivery Project
The Vancouver Airport Fuel Delivery Project has received conditional federal and provincial environmental approvals. Council approved a letter to be sent to the Vancouver Airport Fuel Facilities Corporation to reaffirm issues raised by Delta during the environmental assessment process. The issues include spill or fire management and responsibility, deployment of a protective boom across Ladner Reach during jet fuel offloading to protect the area in the event of a spill, and the appointment of a spill response vessel to be on standby in Ladner Reach during the offloading process. Telus Cellular Works in Tsawwassen
Council received information regarding works by Telus to install cellular telecommunications equipment in Tsawwassen. Delta had not been notified of this work, nor had Telus undertaken any public consultation as per Delta’s Telecommunications Tower and Antenna Policy. The works will improve cellular coverage for local residents, and Telus has committed to keeping Delta apprised in advance of future works. Council also resolved to invite Telus representatives to appear before Council at a future meeting to explain their works in Delta. View the staff report
