Delta recognizes that child care is an essential part of a community’s social infrastructure. In addition to helping the families and children using it, child care benefits the broader population, contributes to the economy, and enhances the overall health and well-being of the community. The pandemic highlighted the essential role of child care not only for working parents but the economy at-large.
There are multiple jurisdictions involved in the planning, funding and delivery of child care (primarily federal and provincial responsibility). While local governments do not have an assigned role, generally they can assist with facilitating the establishment of quality child care in their communities through collaboration, partnerships and supportive actions.
