Free Sustainable Workshops are back for 2024! Delta residents can register for free gardening and green living workshops to help create a more sustainable community. Our local instructors will teach you how to grow your own food, care for your garden, harvest honey, and more! Workshops are held in North Delta and South Delta starting in the spring. Workshops are free, but registration is required.

Resilient Gardens - Surviving Drought, Heat, Storms, and Cold

Join us for this workshop taught by Rhiannon Johnson to learn how to set your garden up to be resilient to variations and extremes in weather and to adapt your food garden to a changing climate. Whether it be dryer hotter summers, or weeks of cold snaps in the winter, or fluctuating temperatures, rainfall, and snowfall, learn gardening techniques to help make your veggie garden more resilient to extreme weather events (storms, cold snaps, heat waves, drought) and hotter and colder conditions.

Water Conserving Landscapes 

Water Conserving Landscapes: Using natural infrastructures and beyond to conserve water at home. In this workshop we will learn about ways that you can integrate your property's unique layout to conserve water. We will discuss enhancing natural systems through different planting, irrigation and landscaping techniques.

Fall and Winter Gardening 

Want veggies this fall? Crunchy home-grown lettuce and hearty kale and other greens? Summer's the time to plant for the fall and winter, and to start thinking about planting overwintering herbs and vegetables! You'll learn how and when to plant cool-weather veggies such as kale, lettuce, parsley, coriander, spinach and swiss chard on your balcony or in your garden for a fall and winter feast!

Introduction to Seed Saving 

Do you want to start saving your own seeds? In this Green Living workshop, Rhiannon Johnson will provide you with the knowledge needed to understand the basic principles behind seed saving and the skills necessary to begin saving seeds. Learn what seeds to save, when to harvest seeds, how to prepare them for storage, and storing them to increase their viability.

Healthy Soil for a Great Garden!

Suitable for folks who have a gardening space, as well as for anyone who would like to start gardening,
you'll learn how to build your soil for a healthy, vibrant veggie garden. Find out how vigorous your soil is
and what to add to it to improve its' vitality! If you have a garden, please bring one watertight CLEAR 1 liter
container (with a lid) 3/4 full of your garden soil, for some simple tests to learn how to improve
it with natural fertilizers, soil amendments, and gardening techniques. This fall and winter is the time to improve your
soil for better garden yield next season!
